Poem #203

If you desire to someday retire I hope we can succeed. You inspire me to aspire to fulfill your every need. 7/29/02010

Poem #202

Think I'll make it in the nick of time! Brother, can you spare a dime? 7/28/02010 This was me trying to squeeze a poem in by midnight. Terrible, terrible, terrible!

Poem #201

Sometimes I feel like a bird on the wing and sometimes I feel quite small. Sometimes you love me early in spring and sometimes late in the fall. 7/27/02010

Poem #200

Pretty much all that matters to me matters because of you. I'm going to love you the rest of my life even if you become a Jew. 7/27/02010 As I've probably mentioned, my darling wife is in the process of converting to Judaism. This is not my favorite idea ever. Such is life.

Poem #199

I feel terrible. I feel awful. I wasted a day of our life. I wish I could take it back and redo it and show you I love you, my wife. 7/27/02010 This was written after some horrible and pointless argument and misunderstanding.

Poem #198

When you kiss me you give my heart wings. When you hug me you set my heart free. I'll never get tired of feeling these things. I cherish what you do to me. 7/25/02010 Another in a long line of gushy love poems.

Poem #197

I've listened to their arguments and still I'm not persuaded. For when it's time to make their point, the truth's always evaded. 7/24/02010 This one is paired thematically with the previous one.

A Diversionary Tactic

Don't believe the “polymath|flibbertigibbet” label that you see above in this blog's header graphic? Check this out: I recently found out about The Thousand-Year Game Design Challenge and within a week had invented a new game and submitted it for consideration in the competition. Read about my game, Venn's Revenge , by clicking here or by clicking on the “Venn's Revenge: The Game” link in the sidebar.

Poem #196

I've listened to their arguments and found them unconvincing. The "logic" they use tends to induce wincing. 7/23/02010 This one was inspired by religionistas pushing their fairy tales as if they represent reality.

Poem #195

A pizza pie is nice and so's a bowl of rice. Sometimes it's quite funny when your eggs are runny. 7/22/02010 No deep meaning here. This was simply an exercise in rhyme.

Poem #194

I love when you call me Dammit. It reminds me of how much you care. But I wonder whether you'd call me that if I danced more like Fred Astaire. 7/21/02010 Dammit is one of my darling wife's nicknames for me. In case you were wondering.

Poem #193

For my birthday, I don't need a fish. I want you to love me. That's my only wish. 7/20/02010 My birthday was fast approaching and my darling wife was probably asking what I wanted.

Poem #192

I've loved you for miles. I've loved you for years. I've loved you through smiles and I've loved you through tears. 7/19/02010

Poem #191

Thanks for not squirting my eyes with a lime or another citrus fruit. Thanks for loving me all of the time and for giving me kisses to boot. 7/18/02010 A gushy love poem.

Poem #190

If the weather's warm enough, surely we will melt. So far it's never happened yet; that's just how we've felt. 7/17/02010 This must've been written on a very warm day.

Poem #189

Invading skunks, cops are drunks. What's going on in this town? Pumpkin trees and your knobby knees to chase away my frown. 7/17/02010 The first stanza involves us having come home to discover three pair of skunks waddling around on our lawn. It also involves a report we heard about a cop in our town being disciplined for drunk driving. The second involves my experiment in growing pumpkins from seeds. The mention of my darling wife's knobby knees is an allusion to her having lost an amazing amount of weight.

Poem #188

Uninteresting, boring, dull as can be. That's my entry in the dictionary. Thrilling, exciting, extraordinary. That one's yours. Don't know why you chose me. 7/17/02010 Here's a bit of my old self-deprecation creeping its way in.

Poem #187

The twinkling of stars, the glow of the moon are dim next to you in my sight. I likely won't see you till well after dark. That's why I long for the night. 7/16/02010 I must've been in the middle of a workday that I expected to go much longer than I hoped.

Poem #186

Someday I might sing you a song in hopes you might sing along. Someday I might write you a letter in hopes it might make you feel better. Someday I might take you flying in hopes it might stop your crying. 7/15/02010 I'm not really sure what was behind this one. Probably just an exercise in rhyme.

Poem #185

If anyone ever asks me what it is I see in you, I will answer simply: "Everything. (…And her eyes are sometimes blue.)" 7/13/02010

Poem #184

What would it cost? What would truly be lost, if I spent a long while entranced by your smile? 7/12/02010 And another.

Poem #183

Would anyone notice I've drifted away if I got lost in your eyes for a day? 7/11/02010 Another gushy love poem.

Poem #182

Seven years down, I hope you don't itch and decide that it's best to leave me in a ditch. I'd love to be married for seven years longer. I'm hopeful by then our love will be stronger. Seven years later, I hope still together. We can walk hand-in-hand, no matter the weather. 7/10/02010 An anniversary poem.

Poem #181

Reaching the end of our seventh year of marriage, I wish I could show you how much you mean. I'd love to give you a ride in a magical carriage. That would be befitting for you, my queen. 7/9/02010 Another in a long line of gushy love poems.

Poem #180

If you were a bureaucrat then I guess you'd know just exactly where it's at and where red tape should go. 7/8/02010

Poem #179

Your ojos, your ojos— invading my dreams. Must be the result of one of your schemes. 7/7/02010 My darling wife claims to like the poems about her ojos especially much.

Poem #178

Sometimes it's entirely too hot to tolerate these dogs leaning up against my skin. 7/6/02010 Must've been having a warm spell.

Poem #177

You fill me with joy though you fill me with dread. I can't understand what goes on in your head. 7/5/02010 I don't remember just what it was that provoked this poem, but I'm sure it was something.

Poem #176

Today is Independence Day but I depend on you to make me very happy and not start feeling blue. Happy Independence Day, my one true guiding star. I love what you do for me and everything you are. 7/4/02010 A holiday-themed, rhyming, gushy love poem.

Poem #175

I saw an aardvark in the dark or maybe that's not right. Perhaps it was a bit of fuzz playing tricks on my sight. 7/3/02010 It rhymes. But see how clever? Lines 2 and 4 rhyme with each other. That's obvious. Perhaps you didn't notice that lines 1 and 3 contain internal rhymes.

Poem #174

Every day starts at midnight and that's when every day ends. No matter how long any day lasts I'm going to love you then. 7/2/02010 A gushy love poem.

Poem #173

like a tennis game before the first point's been won: all tied up, love, love. 7/1/02010 Have I mentioned that haikus are easy?
